Receiving what's Rightfully Yours

Receiving what’s Rightfully YoursWe had a celebration at church this morning that made me think of each of you fellow Mountain Takers. We gathered as a congregation to join God honoring and promoting one of His kids. The Lord was publicly recognizing the many years of faithful service of a lady in our church and bestowing increased authority on her as a licensed pastoral minister. Our friend, Sheryl, was receiving something that was rightfully hers, and we all celebrated what the Lord was…See More

The Agita Giant

AgitaUsually when I think of agita it brings back memories of spicy food. Agita is the way my stomach lets me know I’ve over done it. But agita is also a synonym for another form of “heart burn” – anxiety. You might think of anxiety as mental and emotional agita. Sometimes anxiety does have physical symptoms. Most have heard the term “nervous stomach”.What does agita have to do with taking your Mountain for Christ? A lot! Taking new territory, whether on a physical mountain or one of influence…See More

Increase, Increase!

Increase, Increase! In this day of escalating prices, out of control debt, and worldwide insecurity, is there anything that we can count on to grow in a positive direction? Actually there are two things that we can have absolute assurance will keep on growing and growing. Neither of these can be adversely impacted by any company or country’s fiscal ups and downs. Nor are they subject to whims of policy. They defy the stress of emotional roller coasters and are not buffeted by adversity. In fact,…See More

Cable Car or Crampons

Cable Car or Crampons?Recently I was watching a travelogue on TV. The host was exploring Bavaria in Germany, and one of the highlights of the tour was a trip to the Jungfrau, the highest mountain in that part of Europe. Because this was a travel show and not an outdoor adventure program the mountain was to “scaled” with the aid of a cable car.We, the “virtual” tourists, joined the throng on the platform waiting our turn to board. When we were all safely seated the very impressive ride began. As…See More

"Lord, Give Me Sales!"

“Lord, Give Me Sales!”Did I startle some of you with that title? In the Christian community, certainly within the church itself, we are accustomed to those words being a cry for souls, not sales. Is it okay to approach the Lord like that for something other than souls? Do sales matter to Him? Am I being sacrilegious in suggesting such a thing? As far as the last question – yes – I am and I want to be “sacrilegious”, in the sense that the Lord Himself is. He is not about religion. He is about…See More

Daily Bread

Daily BreadBread is one of the most basic, universal, and essential foods. It has been called the “staff of life” from ancient times. On Israel’s 40 year trek through the desert wilderness they were sustained by manna, the “Bread of Angels”. Jesus and the disciples satisfied over 5,000 very hungry people with five loaves of bread and two fish. Bread is such a basic necessity that many people refer to their employment as the source of their “bread and butter”. Even currency itself is sometimes…See More

The Green Harvest

The Green HarvestHello fellow Mountain Taker. You have not heard from me in few weeks. I have not been travelling and out of touch, I have been waiting on the Lord. Because I am learning to live by the Life of Jesus in me, I am endeavoring to only speak/write when He says to do so and gives me what to say. The Lord has been speaking many things during this time, but not giving me anything to share with you. To tell you the truth this has been frustrating at times. But all learning curves have…See More

Navigating the Maelstrom

Navigating the MaelstromThey say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That makes sense because what is seen as beautiful through one set of eyes may look totally different through another. My mother loved the color green. Anything green was beautiful to her. My favorite color growing up was orange. Mom and I sometimes had very different ideas of what looked attractive. Then in college I discovered the beauty of blue in the eyes of my girlfriend/fiancée/wife. Some people love desert sunsets,…See More

Consistency

ConsistencyWhen you think of the word what kind of associations come to mind? Consistency of flavor, texture, service, and performance, are words that I think of. I once worked on an advertising campaign designed to highlight the quality of a beverage, and our theme was, “Consistency makes a champion!” Certainly in our food products and in life in general, we tend to enjoy and even expect consistency.Do you expect, and deliver consistency on your Mountain? If so, what does that look like? The…See More

Tebow!

Tebow! To our readers outside the U.S., that may seem like an odd title. “What’s a Tebow?” To those in the States it has become a familiar refrain. “Tebow” of course stands for Tim Tebow, the quarterback for the Denver Broncos football team. “Tebow” is not just his name, but the name given to Tim’s practice of kneeling on one knee with head bowed when he thanks the Lord for something that has happened. Because this often takes place on the side line of the football field it has been picked up by…See More

Least Likely to Succeed

Least Likely to SucceedEvery high school yearbook has a page that lists all the “Most Likely” and “Least Likely” candidates for that year’s graduating class. Mostly, it’s done for fun and to generate laughs. Usually the more popular kids get the “good stuff” too. But, have you ever had occasion to look back down memory lane to see whatever became of the “Mosts” and “Leasts”? If you did, you might be surprised what you’d find. How many “Mosts” have made it? And, how many “Leasts” have lived…See More

New Years Expectations

New Year’s ExpectationsHappy New Year and welcome to the next year of adventure! I realize that perhaps just yesterday some have been thinking, “”Whew! I’m sure glad 2011 is behind me.” And that may be legitimate. Every one of us had ups and downs in 2011. As long as we are in this world we are going experience ups and downs just like those around us. Jesus Himself alerted us that in this world we would have tribulations. That’s the fact. The good news is He didn’t stop there. He went on to…See More

Living by Faith

Living by FaithLiving by faith is not just for missionaries. Every one of us is living moment to moment by faith. We believe (aka. “Have faith”) that our heart is going to keep beating. This faith is so deep that we don’t even think about it. We simply expect it to happen. We are creatures of faith. Whether we realize it or not, this living by faith spills into our daily occupational life also.My father worked for nearly 40 years for one of the most iconic multi-national corporations of the…See More

When Nobody is Looking

When Nobody is LookingThis last week I came across a quote that has stuck with me. In an interview, Arian Foster, a star American football player quoted a statement of his father’s that had been inspirational for him; helping him to maintain the regimen of physical discipline that has enabled him to become the star athlete he is today. His dad’s words were few but powerful. “I you want to be great, you have to do things when nobody’s looking.”Doing things when nobody’s looking conjures up…See More

Fruit or Root

Fruit or RootWhen it becomes necessary to visit a doctor it‘s time for answers. I don’t go to that trouble to have him or her tell me how to treat symptoms. I want to know what’s causing the symptoms, because I need to not just deal with the symptoms, I need the sickness to be eliminated. Pain management is not enough. “Let’s get to the root of the problem!” I’m confident that all of you would agree to that approach. Why else go to the doctor and follow their counsel, right?Yet twice this last…See More
