I finally re-potted a plant that I’ve had for about five years. The outer edges of the leaves were starting to yellow. Stranger was the fact that the plant was now growing long root stems instead of leaves. And even I, little as I know about gardening, could see it was time for a transplant otherwise this plant with brown tentacles was not long for this earth. To free the plant of its clay home, I smashed the unsuspecting pot with a hammer. And what did I uncover? Circles of roots that had continued to sprout despite the excruciatingly small space. The plant was surviving but I venture to say it was not living. Hopefully in its new planter, it will be able to spread its wings and fly.
